Onions - nutritional benefits

Most of the different onions contain dietary fiber, Vitamin B6, and potassium as well as Vitamin C. As many know, there are several benefits to different vitamins and minerals. Vitamin C in onions has shown to be a great anti-oxidant and helps in anti-inflamation.

Onions can help stimulate insulin production and have been regarded as extremely helpful in preventing cancer and can reduce symptoms of cardiovascular disease through sulfides which may provide protection against tumors, lower blood lipids, and blood pressure. This is through an element in onions known as flavonoid quercetin.

Onions have helped people live longer, healthier lives by having all of the nutritional benefits that it offers. Many people still use wild onions for many home remedies such as curing colds, asthma, bacterial infections and even as a form of pesticide for insects. There are many other uses for the onion in home remedies and medicinal purposes alike, so keeping a few different onions on hand is not such a bad idea after all even if the person does not find it tasty. There are no downsides to keeping onions around unless one is not too partial to the smell!
